JoAnne Adams Whitlock

JoAnne Adams was born in Logansport, Indiana on January 6, 1946. She graduated from Model High School and attended EKU for two years. After meeting President Whitlock in the fall of 1960 at Stockton’s Pharmacy they started dating in the spring of 1961, and were married October 5th 1968. They have two children Janet Anne and Robert Douglas.
During her time as First Lady JoAnne’s favorite Eastern Traditions were campus events such as; the Madrigal Dinner, EKU theater productions and the EKU Dance theater performances along with participating in Homecoming events and Commencements. As First Lady she became acquainted with many EKU Alumnus. She was able to travel with President Whitlock abroad visiting with former students and partnering Universities, as well as visiting alumni chapters around the United States. One campus group, The Student Alumni Ambassadors, in particular, JoAnne became very fond of during her time as First Lady.
JoAnne Whitlock hopes that she will be remembered as one who supported her husband in his work and represented the University well, including being remembered as one who made faculty, staff, alumni, students and friends of the institution feel welcome in the Blanton House. She takes pride in knowing she was the last Frist lady to entertain in the Blanton House, as it is no longer being used as the primary presidential residence.
Since President Whitlock’s retirement JoAnne enjoys sewing in her free time and they have travelled frequently.
